Technical Application Knowledge: From practice, for practice
Good news for all professionals involved in the maintenance and optimization of lighting systems: Our software now allows you to reconfigure existing LED drivers directly via the DALI bus – without the need for physical access to each device.
This feature is ideal for post-installation changes and functional adjustments, such as adapting to new usage requirements, energy-saving measures, or comfort improvements.
Key benefits:
- Modify settings via DALI addresses (e.g., dimming behavior, output current, emergency light settings, time profiles, etc.)
- Batch programming of multiple devices
- Device detection and identification
- No need to manually access or open luminaires
Your advantage:
Bus-based configuration eliminates the need for on-site work. Costs for lifting devices, additional personnel, and long deployment times are significantly reduced – especially for hard-to-reach installations or large projects.
Important note:
For multi-channel drivers (e.g., Tunable White or RGBW), the operating mode cannot be changed via selective programming, as this may alter the number of DALI addresses used.
Step-by-step guide: Post-Installation configuration via DALI
Required software:
- T4T-C (for creating the production file)
- T4T-P4 (for targeted programming via DALI)
Required hardware:
- DALI Magic interface
- Plug-in power supply for DALI Magic (required if more than 4 devices on the DALI-Bus and no DALI power supply connected)
1. Preparation
Turn off or disconnect the DALI controller to ensure error-free communication and avoid bus conflicts.
If not already done address all devices on the DALI bus (e.g., using our DALI Wizard).
2. Reading a device (Optional)
- Click ‘Read ECG’ in the software.
- Switch from ‘Broadcast’ to ‘Addressed’ mode.
- Either:
– enter the DALI address directly, or
– scan the DALI bus and select the desired device from the list. - For identification, you can make the device blink via the software.

3. Adjust settings & create production file
After reading the device, adjust the desired parameters as usual with T4T-Configurator (https://www.tuner4tronic.com/) and create a production file.
4. Selective programming with T4T-P4
- Open the production file in T4T-P4.
- Under ‘Additional DALI Options’, activate ‘Enable Selective Programming’.
- You can then:
– program devices via their DALI addresses, or
– scan the DALI bus and select either all compatible devices or only specific ones to apply the changes.

Note on duration
The duration of the scan and programming process depends on the number of bus participants and devices being programmed. On a fully populated DALI bus, the process may take up to 30 minutes.
